Overlapping illusions by transformation optics without any negative refraction material

Abstract: A novel method to achieve an overlapping illusion without any negative refraction index material is introduced with the help of the optic-null medium (ONM) designed by an extremely stretching spatial transformation. Unlike the previous methods to achieve such an optical illusion by transformation optics (TO), our method can achieve a power combination and reshape the radiation pattern at the same time. Unlike the overlapping illusion with some negative refraction index material, our method is not sensitive to … Show more

“…The current illusion techniques could neither change the number of heat signatures nor realize both interior and exterior illusion simultaneously. Actually, neither the existing transformation thermotics nor transformation optics have been reported to solve such two problems simultaneously yet. However, can we solve both problems stated in the Abstract in order to achieve interior and exterior illusions at one go with positive parameters throughout?…”

“…Two surfaces linked by optic-null medium (ONM) are equivalent surfaces in OST [18]. OST is broadly applicable in the design of lenses [18,20], electromagnetic open resonators [21], overlapped illusions [22], waveguide bends [23], scattering cover-up cloaks [24], subwavelength focusing [25], etc. ONM has extremely large permittivity and permeability along its main axis, and close to zero in orthogonal directions.…”

“…), any point on the same line segment ( y′ = C , 0< x′ < d , C is a constant) in the real space corresponds to one point ( x = 0, y = C ) in the reference space. We can use this feature to achieve an optical overlapping illusion (see Figure ) …”
