“…We identified 19 new miRNAs deregulated in CRC ( Table 1) that, to our knowledge, have never before been reported in cancer. We found deregulation of miR-1, miR-195, miR-143, miR-215, miR-31, miR-194, miR-30c, miR-133b, miR-192, miR-30b, miR-378*, miR-137, miR-133a, and miR-378 in CRC, which is consistent with earlier reports of miRNA expression in CRC (Michael et al, 2003;Bandres et al, 2006;Cummins et al, 2006;Volinia et al, 2006;Monzo et al, 2008;Arndt et al, 2009;Earle et al, 2010;Wang et al, 2010). Down-regulation of miR-378 in CRC compared with normal, observed in both our microarray and RT-PCR analysis, was also seen in a study by Wang et al (2010), who compared para-cancerous tissues and colorectal cancer samples.…”

“…A number of studies published recently focus on the significance of miRNAs in CRC development, classification, diagnosis, and prognosis (Michael et al, 2003;Bandres et al, 2006;Cummins et al, 2006;Volinia et al, 2006;Monzo et al, 2008;Earle et al, 2010). Little is known, however, about differences in miRNA expression between CRCs with and without the KRAS mutation.…”

“…The function of miRNA is the downregulation of multiple target gene expression by degrading the mRNA or blocking its translation into protein through RNA interference (24,25). Several miRNAs, such as miRNA-21 (miR-21), miR-17-92 cluster, and miR-135, were highly expressed in CRC tissues (26)(27)(28)(29). Several recent studies reported that the circulating miRNA in plasma was a potential marker for CRC detection (30,31) and was remarkably stable in plasma and protected from endogenous RNase activity (32).…”

“…Overlapping miRNA expression was detected between embryonic colonic mucosa and CRC. The miR-17-92 cluster and its target, E2F1, exhibit a similar pattern of expression in human colon development and in colonic carcinogenesis -regulating cell proliferation in both cases [59]. Authors of this study conclude that miRNA pathways play a major role in both embryonic development and neoplastic transformation of the colonic epithelium.…”

“…Monzo et al [59] assessed the expression of mature miRNAs in human embryonic colon tissue, as well as in CRC and paired normal colon tissue. Overlapping miRNA expression was detected between embryonic colonic mucosa and CRC.…”
