Overflow buffering in an all-optical switched cross-connect

Abstract

Absuad-This paper considers the performanee of sn nUoptical packet-switched crors-connect. All-optical hesdei processing and aIl-OptiCst rouling PIC implemented in the er~~ssooneet nrehiteeturer. Tho maim metric considered to measure the performance b the packet loss ratio for the buffering. A recirculaling buffer Is implemented with P degenerate contigumtion. It fr shown that the unratiafsctory performanee achieved taking Ihe self-slmila.lty of Ihe tramc into account can be improved using avernow buffering. Overtlow buffering utilises wallable buffer positions in parallel wwelengthr ofthe same physical buffer.
