Overexpression of StGA2ox1 Gene Increases the Tolerance to Abiotic Stress in Transgenic Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Plants

Abstract: It has been known that GA2ox is one kind of key enzyme gene in the gibberellin synthesis pathway, which plays important regulatory roles throughout plant whole growth and development. In this article, one of the GA2ox family genes, designated StGA2ox1, was isolated from potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). The full length of cDNA is 1005 bp, and the cDNA corresponds to a protein of 334 amino acids; this protein was classified in a group with NtGA2ox3 based on multiple sequence alignments and phylogenetic characteriz… Show more

“…For example, activation of gibberellin 2-oxidase 6 decreased active gibberellin levels and created a dominant semi-dwarf phenotype in rice (Oryza sativa L.) [ 31 ]. Overexpression of stga2ox1 gene increases the tolerance to abiotic stress in transgenic potato plants [ 32 ]. Developing xylem-preferential expression of PdGA20ox1 improves woody biomass production in a hybrid poplar [ 33 ] and the QTL GNP1 encodes GA20ox1, which increases grain number and yield by increasing cytokinin activity in rice panicle meristems [ 34 ].…”

“…The GA2ox genes make plants more resistant to salt stress. GA2ox is a class of oxidase and plays a vital role in regulating the synthesis of GA [113]. Previous research demonstrated that GA2ox helps in the conversion of bioactive GAs to an inactive form [114].…”

“…Previous evidence suggested that GA2ox genes act as the main regulatory unit of the GA biosynthetic pathway, participating in response to biotic and abiotic stresses [20][21][22][23]. To investigate whether OsGA2ox8 is involved in the response to various abiotic stresses and hormones in rice, the expression patterns of OsGA2ox8 were analyzed using total RNA extracted from the leaves and roots of Nipponbare plants at the three-leaf stage exposed to the following treatments: Gibberellin (GA 10 µM), paclobutrazol (PAC 10 µM), abscisic acid (ABA 100 µM), indoleacetic acid (IAA 20 µM), jasmonic acid (JA 100 µM), hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 20 mM), polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG6000 20%), low temperature (4 • C), and salt (150 mM) (Figure 2A).…”
