Overexpression of miR-595 and miR-1246 in the Sera of Patients with Active Forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: Serum miR-595 and miR-1246 are biomarkers of active CD, UC, and RA. These findings gain significance from reports that miR-595 impairs epithelial tight junctions, whereas miR-1246 indirectly activates the proinflammatory nuclear factor of activated T cells. miR-595 targets the cell adhesion molecule neural cell adhesion molecule-1, and fibroblast growth factor receptor 2, which plays a key role in the differentiation, protection, and repair of colonic epithelium, and maintenance of tight junctions. miR-595 and… Show more

“…It is also known that miR‐595 and miR‐1246 were significantly up‐regulated in the serum of active colonic Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis patients, compared with healthy subjects (Krissansen et al. ). In our findings, periodontitis up‐regulated expression rate of miR‐207, miR‐376‐3p, and miR‐495 in serum.…”

“…For instance, it is reported that serum levels of miR-20a, miR-28-3p, miR-34c-5p, and miR-100 were found to be significantly down-regulated in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Akbas et al 2012). “…The downregulation of this gene could perturb its role in vessel remodelling and could be linked to vascular thrombosis in placenta of patient with APS. While for miR-595, it was previously found to be overexpressed in the sera of patients with inflammatory bowel disease [19]. As inflammatory-mediated tissue damage is also indicated in placenta of patients with APS, miR-595 could possibly involve in the mechanism of this disease.…”

“…Overexpression of miR-595 promoted the glioblastoma cell proliferation and colony formation through targeting SOX7. Another study demonstrated that miR-595 expression was upregulated in the sera of active forms of inflammatory bowel disease patients [32]. Chen et al [31].…”
