Overexpression of GmCAMTA12 Enhanced Drought Tolerance in Arabidopsis and Soybean

Abstract: Fifteen transcription factors in the CAMTA (calmodulin binding transcription activator) family of soybean were reported to differentially regulate in multiple stresses; however, their functional analyses had not yet been attempted. To characterize their role in stresses, we first comprehensively analyzed the GmCAMTA family in silico and thereafter determined their expression pattern under drought. The bioinformatics analysis revealed multiple stress-related cis-regulatory elements including ABRE, SARE, G-box a… Show more

“…Similarly, OsHSFA3-overexpressing plants maintained higher biomass as compared to WT under drought stress, which further revealed its role in drought tolerance. These observations were in line with previous findings which revealed higher plant biomass and survival ability in drought-tolerant plants [40,52,53]. These findings indicate that OsHSFA3 induces drought tolerance in transgenic plants by different plant adaptations such as longer root length, reduced water loss and modulating the ABA level to protect from dehydration.…”

“…The underpinning mechanisms of CAMTA under abiotic stress conditions had been reasonably elucidated ( Pandey et al, 2013 ; Noman et al, 2019 ; Shkolnik et al, 2019 ). Under normal conditions, where plants are not exposed to any stress, there is minimal induction of CAMTA genes.…”

“…Many transcription factor gene families (TFs) were studied in the majority of these 21 articles [6,8,9,11,[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]23,24]. Various putative stress-related and hormone-responsive cis-acting regulatory elements were identified in the promotor of these TFs.…”
