Overexpression of Gelsolin-Like Actin-Capping Protein Is Associated with Progression of Lung Adenocarcinoma

Abstract: Gelsolin-like actin-capping protein (CapG), a ubiquitous actin-binding protein, has been shown to play a critical role in regulating the migration ability of cells. In this study, we investigated CapG expression in lung cancer cell lines under hypoxia and evaluated the effect of CapG on the migration ability of these cells. We also analyzed the expression of CapG in a total of 75 patients with lung adenocarcinoma by immunohistochemistry. Our results showed that hypoxia increased the expression of CapG in the h… Show more

“…Gelsolin has two subtypes, intracellular gelsolin (cGSN) and plasma gelsolin (pGSN). cGSN has been reported to play important roles in the regulation of cell apoptosis, tumor progression, phagocytosis, actin activity regulation, blood platelet formation, and cell movement [19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27]. pGSN plays important roles in body protection and internal environment stability as one of the most important actin-binding proteins in the actin-clearing system.…”

“…CapG is overexpressed in lung cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancer, and colorectal cancer cells, as well as ovarian tumors and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, CapG can be utilized clinically as a part of the treatment for these malignancies (Thompson et al, 2007;Partheen et al, 2008;Zheng et al, 2010;Shao et al, 2011;Wu et al, 2011;Morofuji et al, 2012;Zhu et al, 2012;Kimura et al, 2013). Therefore, CapG has certain clinical prospects in the treatment and diagnosis of various types of cancer.…”

“…Most previous reports demonstrated a positive association between cancer and CAPG protein expression [5][6][7][8][9][10][25][26][27][28][29]. Although it has been reported that CAPG SVPs was associated with carotid atherosclerosis [30], to our best knowledge, this is the first report which examined an association of malignant tumor with CAPG polymorphism in detail.…”

“…Dysregulation of actin-based motility is a prominent factor in cell transformation and is probably associated with carcinogenesis. Actually, CAPG expression was up-regulated in a variety of cancer types, particularly in invasive and metastatic cancers such as breast cancer [4], gastric cancer [5], lung cancer [6], pancreatic cancer [7], colorectal cancer [8], oral squamous cell carcinoma [9], and ovarian cancer [10]. These observations suggest a common role of CAPG in cancer development.…”
