Overcoming mine safety crisis in Pakistan: An appraisal

Abstract: Mineral production is the mainstay of the global economy. Pakistan has huge mineral resources potential, but the contribution of minerals to the gross domestic product is not commensurate with its potential. The main reasons for the unregulated nature of the mining sector are poor organizational structure, inadequate implementation of legislation, insufficient investment, and lack of technology. Due concerns and priority of introducing advanced and safe mining methods are still awaited in Pakistan. Therefore, … Show more

“…However, this sector is still ignored regarding safety that is resulting in workers causalities. Therefore, it is unavoidable to conduct effective research to improve the workplace safety and diminish the probability of mining fatalities (Jiskani et al 2019. During mine management, the safety officer should acquire accurate forecasting results to appraise future safety to reduce the number of causalities.…”

“…M ining is one of the most dangerous industries in the world because it involves workers in dangerous conditions and exposes them to an increased risk of accidents. Pakistan's mining industry is subjected to many constraints, such as low socioeconomic status, lack of legislation, poor working conditions and lack of safety measures [1,2]. The industry is also not technologically advanced, so considerable attention should be paid for achieving sustainable economic growth through intelligent planning for the exploitation of indigenous mineral resources [2e4].…”
