Overall survival and tumor recurrence after surgical resection for primary malignant chest wall tumors: a single-center, single-surgeon experience

Abstract: Background and objectives: Malignant primary chest wall tumors (PCWTs) comprise a rare group of thoracic tumors with unique anatomical considerations, and experience with wide surgical resection is limited to specialty referral centers and specific diagnoses. We investigated the tumor recurrence and overall survival (OS) for patients with a variety of PCWTs diagnoses at our institution. Methods: From 1991 to 2010, patients with malignant PCWT undergoing wide surgical resection for curative intent under a singl… Show more

“…1311039 168 positivity increased regional recurrence rates (26). When Shah et al examined the 115 patients who underwent surgical resection for primary malignant tumor of the chest wall, the regional recurrence rate was 50%; distant metastasis rate was 38% (40). In our study, when all histopathological subtypes were evaluated together, the regional recurrence rate was 45%; distant metastasis rate was 10%.…”

“…При этом одним из наиболее важных прогностических факторов служит достаточный отступ при резекции грудной стенки. По данным ряда авторов, хирургический край должен составлять >2 см от границ опухоли, если нет риска травматизации жизненно важных органов [6,26,27,28]. Меньший отступ допустим при доброкачественных опухолях.…”
