Overall optimization of high-speed semiconductor laser modules

Abstract: Based on the high frequency techniques such as frequency response measurement, equivalent circuit modeling and packaging parasitics compensation, a comprehensive optimization method for packaging high-speed semiconductor laser module is presented in this paper. The experiments show that the small-signal magnitude frequency response of the TO packaged laser module is superior to that of laser diode in frequencies, and the in-band flatness and the phase-frequency linearity are also improved significantly.optimiz… Show more

“…(iii) The parasitic parameters of the package network and the chip can be obtained by comparing with the results of packaged PD, and then with the equivalent circuit model of the whole PD can be established, consequently the comprehensive optimum design of the PD chip and its microwave packaging can be proceeded [16,17].…”

“…Once the fiber dispersion is determined from the characteristic notch frequency, the modulation index can be determined from the measured SFH, and its high-frequency degradation can be obtained by the swept-frequency measurement with a vector network analyzer owing to the fundamental component measurement [12]. For the measuring accuracy, we investigate the error dependence of the modulation index on the dispersion uncertainty by the error transfer factor…”

“…The conversion efficiency represents the signal promotion, while the harmonic distortion reflects the signal distortion. In traditional spectrum measurement, a sinusoidal signal is input as the analog signal to be sampled, and the harmonics of the output signal are measured for comparison, from which the nonlinearity can be evaluated [6][7][8]. This method is very accurate; however, the measurement should be repeated for both input and output signals once the input signal is updated, which is not suitable for properly choosing the operating parameters in advance.…”
