Ovarian tumor and glomerulopathies: case report and review of the literature

Abstract: We describe a patient who developed nephrotic syndrome in the setting of ovarian tumor. A kidney biopsy showed minimal change nephropathy (MCN). CT scan and MR imaging followed by surgery lead to diagnostic of ovarian dermoid cyst. Surgery combined with corticosteroids resulted in a complete remission of nephrotic syndrome with disappearance of proteinuria after 3 weeks. Ten other cases of ovarian tumor associated with glomerulopathy are reviewed. This is the second case of an ovarian teratoma associated with … Show more

“…4 A third case reports a 55-year-old female with NS in the context of mature cystic teratoma of the ovary who achieved complete remission of the NS with steroids within 3 weeks of surgical removal of the tumor. 6 Renal biopsies of the latter two cases confirmed MCD. The last case describes a 16-year-old female with NS and ovarian mature teratoma.…”

“…In addition to metastatic lesions and direct extension, other findings on renal histopathology can include chronic kidney disease such as glomerulonephritis or interstitial fibrosis, infectious processes like pyelitis or abscesses, and benign conditions such as angiomyolipoma or oncocytoma. However, these are less common in patients with ovarian cancer (9,18).…”
