Ovarian tissue cryopreservation for fertility preservation in 418 girls and adolescents up to 15 years of age facing highly gonadotoxic treatment. Twenty years of experience at a single center

Abstract: Introduction The preservation of fertility is an integral part of care of children requiring gonadotoxic treatments for cancer or non‐malignant diseases. In France, the cryopreservation of ovarian tissue has been considered and has been offered as a clinical treatment since its inception. The aim of this study is to review 20 years of activity in fertility preservation by ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) for children and the feasibility of oocyte isolation and cryopreservation from the ovarian tissue at a… Show more

“…For female patients, methods such as the cryopreservation of oocytes, embryos, or ovarian tissue may be offered [1,3,4,5,6]. The development of techniques for fertility preservation has rapidly evolved into a fruitful research field with a focus not only on patients of reproductive age, but also on children and adolescents [7], and programs for fertility preservation have been established in many countries and have reported a continuous increase in numbers of patients undergoing such procedures [8,9,10,11,12]. However, female fertility preservation options are challenging in several clinical situations, such as the case of pre-pubertal girls in whom mature oocyte cryopreservation is not feasible or when time constraints do not allow for hormonal stimulation aiming at mature egg retrieval in adult women.…”

“…Three hundred and thirteen patients had malignant diseases, and 105 had benign conditions. Recently three patients had auto-transplantation but no pregnancy has been reported yet (Poirot et al, 2019). A systematic review evaluating FP options in women with TS included 67 studies.…”

“…The bene ciaries include the prepubertal, adolescent, and young adults diagnosed with malignant diseases e.g. gastrointestinal carcinoma, leukemia and breast cancer [1,2]. Clinicians concern about the existence of disseminated cancer cells that are dormant in the ovaries before anti-cancer treatment [3].…”
