Output Voltage Characteristics of Piezoelectric Fiber/Aluminum Composites Fabricated by Interphase Forming/Bonding Method

Abstract: This paper describes the output voltage characteristics of the metal-core piezoelectric ceramic fiber/aluminum composites fabricated by the Interphase Forming/Bonding (IF/B) method. Piezoelectric materials are generally used as electric and mechanical energy transducers. When their devices are developed for fulfilling their functions, complicated electrode systems and resin layers for adhesion of the materials and the electrodes are usually needed, where depression of response and reliability, and complication… Show more

“…In addition, the anisotropy of the output voltage can be represented by Equation V=Dxε1cos2α2+Dyε1+cos2α2where D x and D y are coefficients of the output voltage in the x‐ and y‐ directions, respectively, and α is the strain direction. The output voltage anisotropy calculated using the results of the described experiments is shown in Figure .…”

“…In this study, a vibration viscosity measuring sensor capable of measuring the viscosity of engine oil was used for monitoring the deterioration of the oil using a metal-core piezoelectric fiber/aluminum composite [20,21]. This composite embeds a metal-core piezoelectric fiber [22,23] in the aluminum matrix.…”

“…Moreover, it is a product of a private company (Nagamine Manufacturing Co., Ltd.) and difficult to redesign. For example, the output voltage of this composite depends on the direction of the applied strain because of the shape of the piezoelectric ceramic, which cannot be redesigned (Yanaseko et al, 2014;Yanaseko et al, 2015a and2015b). Considering the practical application to SHM, it is necessary to realize sensor characteristics according to the application.…”
