Summary In this paper, an adaptive decentralized tracking control scheme is designed for large‐scale nonlinear systems with input quantization, actuator faults, and external disturbance. The nonlinearities, time‐varying actuator faults, and disturbance are assumed to exist unknown upper and lower bounds. Then, an adaptive decentralized fault‐tolerant tracking control method is designed without using backstepping technique and neural networks. In the proposed control scheme, adaptive mechanisms are used to compensate the effects of unknown nonlinearities, input quantization, actuator faults, and disturbance. The designed adaptive control strategy can guarantee that all the signals of each subsystem are bounded and the tracking errors of all subsystems converge asymptotically to zero. Finally, simulation results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the designed approach.

This paper investigates the optimal modified tracking performance of networked time‐delay systems with packet dropout constraint. A novel modified tracking performance index of networked time‐delay systems is proposed which prevents variations in the tracking error from leading to invalid data when there is no integrator in the plant. Some explicit expressions are obtained by using spectral decomposition. The obtained results show that the optimal modified tracking performance is related to the intrinsic properties of a given plant such as non‐minimum phase (NMP) zeros, unstable poles and time‐delay. Furthermore, the modified factor and packet dropout probability affect the optimal modified tracking performance of the networked time‐delay systems. The optimal modified tracking performance with the channel input power constraint is obtained by searching through all stabilizing one‐parameter compensators. Finally, the efficiency of the result is verified using some typical examples.

The modeling and control problems are investigated for cold rolling mill system. Firstly, we establish a monitor automatic gauge control (MAGC) model for a practical cold rolling mill system. The new model is with mismatched uncertainties. Then, an extended state observer (ESO) is developed to estimate uncertainties. In the general high-order systems, the ESO is also used to estimate states. By dynamic surface control method, we design the controller to guarantee stabilization of the cold rolling mill system. Furthermore, we extend proposed method to general high-order systems, in which we analyze the difference from cold rolling mill system. Finally, simulation results for MAGC system are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
