“…Additionally in this study, aging, elevated blood sugar and female gender were also found to be associated with inferior visual acuities. In terms of workplace health promotion and work fitness [15], visual health protection for the susceptible workers are desirable [16]. in visual acuity had been confirmed [26,27] and circadian disruption accelerating the aging process was highly plausible [28,29].…”

“…No definitive unfitness decision has been formulated in our series. It should be noted that in general, notifications of unfitness are rare because Zevallos in the Netherlands, having studied a much larger population of seafarers (7617) in 2012, found 0.6% of unfitness and 4% of restricted fitness cases [8]. This small difference in results could be explained by the fact that seafarers, in the socio-economic context in Benin, do not present themselves for the medical examinations for fitness until they feel well (self-selection bias) and because of the disproportionate size of the sample.…”

“…There is an increased risk for these health problems if they occur when the individual is on-board a ship, as there is limited access to professional medical help [7]. A study in the Netherlands found that 52% of those who were declared unfit in the seafarer’s medical qualification had cardiovascular conditions and morbid obesity [8]. This research shows that being overweight can affect one’s ability to effectively perform their job, and may prevent continued employment.…”
