Outcomes of preimplantation genetic diagnosis using either zona drilling with acidified Tyrode's solution or partial zona dissection

Abstract: ObjectiveTo review the outcomes of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) using zona drilling with acid Tyrode's solution (chemical zona pellucida drilling, chemical ZD) and those of partial zona dissection (PZD).MethodsClinical outcomes of seventy-one couples undergoing 85 PGD cycles from January 2005 to December 2010 were included. Blastocyst formation and the hatching rate, clinical pregnancy rate, ongoing pregnancy rate, implantation rate, and fetal gender ratio of the PZD and chemical ZD groups were comp… Show more

“…Cieslak and coworkers (1999) have compared PZD versus 3D-PZD zona breaching in an unselected population finding a non-significant improvement of clinical outcomes for the three-dimensional procedure. The mechanical procedure did not demonstrate any improvement over the laser-mediated AH at least in selected patients [42,51] whereas in a single recent small retrospective contribution, PZD has shown superiority over acidified Tyrode's solution [45] in terms of implantation, clinical and ongoing pregnancy rate.…”

“…The partial zona dissection (PZD) has been the precursor of these procedures. The embryo is held firmly in position by the holding pipette and an opening is made by introducing an injection/dissecting pipette through the ZP, followed by rubbing the embryo gently against the holding pipette until the embryo is released [45,51,52] (Fig. 5).…”

“…All ICSI cycles included in this study were conducted according to a long mid-luteal gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist protocol as previously described [ 18 ]. Briefly, pituitary down-regulation with a GnRH agonist (decapeptyl-depot; Ferring, Malmo, Sweden) was followed by controlled ovarian stimulation with human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG; 225–300 IU/day, Menopur, Ferring).…”
