Outcomes of Laparoscopic Hiatal Hernia Repair in Nine Bariatric Patients with Prior Sleeve Gastrectomy

Abstract: Laparoscopic HH repair offers a safe and feasible approach in the management of persistent GERD after LSG in well-selected bariatric patients. Larger prospective studies are warranted to investigate the effectiveness of HH repair in this population as 22% of our patients did not demonstrate postoperative symptomatic improvement.

“…72 An experts' panel in a recently published guideline regarding reinterventions after LSG 73 unanimously agreed with LRYGB being the best treatment option, as in straight contrast with hiatal hernia repair alone or associated with either modified hill gastropexy or teres ligamentum antireflux procedure as surgical options, which present high failure rates. 74,75 Reported data from case series show excellent symptomatic results after conversion to LRYGB. 69,70,[76][77][78] In line with this, Felsenreich et al 79 studied 10 patients with de novo GERD and Barrett's Esophagus after LSG.…”
