Abstract:Improvements in most measures attained during CR were still Vera evident at 1 year in both men and women. Whether reinforcement CR Cardiovascular sessions or other strategies to enhance long-term adherence to lifestyle changes could attenuate the observed attrition in benefits needs further study. Gender-specific strategies may best address the needs of men and women.
“…7,8,13 The change in MCS scores was no different in patients who attended 25 or more sessions versus those attending 24 or fewer sessions, suggesting that groups benefited similarly in the mental component, regardless of the number of sessions attended. The relative change in SF-36 PCS was associated with the relative change in 6MWT, which may be interpreted to suggest that patients who improved more in the 6MWT had an improved perception of physical function after the CR or vice versa.…”

“…The SF-36 PCS scores also improved to a greater extent in the highest tertile versus the lowest tertile (P ϭ .001), although MCS score changes were not different fit from participating in phase II CR. [7][8][9][10][11]13 Ninety-five percent of study patients improved 6MWT distance an average of 21.6% (range ϭ 1%-115%). Patients improved 6-minute walking distance an average of 73.9 m, equating to a functional improvement in average walking speed of 0.5 mph.…”

“…[10][11][12] In the present study, the average BW loss was modest and in agreement with previously reported findings for changes in BW 10-12 and BMI. 5,8,9 LIMITATIONS This was a retrospective chart review using patient data derived from a single hospital-based CR program in the southeast part of the United States. Specific reasons for program completion or withdrawal from the CR program were not determined.…”

Most patients benefit physically and mentally from CR. Patients with lower initial functional ability and who attend 25 or more sessions enjoy the greatest improvements in walking ability and perception of physical health and function.

“…26 Other studies have shown that those who are referred to cardiac rehabilitation have lower rates of smoking, reduction in cholesterol, and improved quality of life or functional status. [27][28][29] These improvements are generally long-lasting and are still evident up to 5 years postprogram in both men and women.…”
