Outage performance of NOMA‐based integrated satellite‐terrestrial networks with imperfect CSI

Abstract: In this Letter, the authors consider the integrated satellite-terrestrial networks with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme, where the satellite communicates with users through a decode-and-forward relay. The impact of imperfect channel state information (CSI) is studied by adopting a pilot-based channel estimation. Closed-form outage probability expressions for each NOMA user are derived, as well as asymptotic expressions at high signal-to-noise ratio region. Simulation is implemented to confirm the … Show more

“…In this section, we investigate the outage performance and ergodic sum capacity of the coordinated NOMA strategy for ITSN. According to [ 8 , 9 ], the authors believe that it is important to study the outage probability when data rates of each stream are adjusted according to the quality of service (QoS) requirements of each user. But unlike the outage probability, the ergodic sum capacity is important when the transmission rates are predetermined in accordance with users’ channel conditions.…”

“…The main demodulation error of user 2 is that the constellation points near the I axis at the transmitter move to the other side of the coordinate axis when the points are demodulated. For example, the red point (01,1) moves to the area of the black point (11,0). This will cause demodulation error of user 1, i.e., the first bit 0 is demodulated as 1.…”

“…Li et al in [18] analyzed the performance of NOMA simultaneous wireless information and power transfer relaying networks over Weibull fading channels, where the imperfect CSI and residual hardware impairments were taken into account. The authors in [19] proposed the NOMA based integrated satellite-terrestrial networks, and studied the effect of impefect CSI on channel estimation by using pilot based channel estimation method. Finally, the validity of the theoretical results were verified by Monte-Carlo simulation.…”

“…Although the aforementioned works such as [19], [20] have greatly improved our understanding on the NOMA based terrestrial-satellite networks under imperfect CSI condition, it should be noted that they did not take into account the effect of non-ideal SIC on system performance, and the channels considered were unordered. Additionally, unlike in [24], where the authors assumed perfect channel estimation, we consider the practical scenario where channel estimation is imperfect.…”
