Osteoporosis awareness is essential for preventing osteoporotic fractures. Social media platforms have enormous potential to both support and deter patients' decisions on healthcare. The current study demonstrated that the majority of YouTube videos on osteoporosis provide useful information with sufficient quality. Purpose YouTube is the most popular video-sharing platform for patients seeking online information about their medical condition. However, there are concerns regarding the accuracy and quality of YouTube content. We aimed to analyze the quality of English-language YouTube videos on osteoporosis. Methods A YouTube search was performed on April 21, 2021, using the keywords "osteoporosis," "osteoporosis exercise," "osteoporosis diet," and "osteoporosis treatment." The reviewers recorded the content, source, and detailed characteristics of the included videos. The reliability and quality of the videos were analyzed using the modified DISCERN score and Global Quality Scale (GQS) score by a rheumatologist and endocrinologist. Results Of the 400 videos screened, 238 were included in the study after applying the exclusion criteria. A total of 205 (86.1%) videos revealed useful information about osteoporosis whereas 33 (13.9%) were misleading. In terms of quality, 48% of the videos were of high quality, 34% were of moderate quality, and 18% were of low quality. The videos posted by universities and professional organizations had the highest modified DISCERN and GQS scores indicating high reliability and quality. Conclusion This study demonstrated that the majority of YouTube videos on osteoporosis contained useful information with sufficient quality. However, physicians should be aware of misleading information and correct any misinformation during face-to-face meetings with patients. YouTube should consider creating partnerships with professional organizations in the field of osteoporosis to produce high-quality videos in line with their new health content policy.

Osteoporosis is a global public health issue and its consequent effects are a growing concern worldwide. Caregivers generally experience occupational physical ailments and they have less of a tendency to engage in preventive health behaviors, leading them to be in a higher risk group for osteoporosis. This study aims to present a general profile of health literacy related to osteoporosis risks and identify its associated factors among disability institutional caregivers. A cross-sectional study with a structured questionnaire was used to collect information on 465 caregivers from seven disability care institutions regarding their awareness of the health literacy related to osteoporosis risks. The results indicate that the average literacy score related to osteoporosis risks among the respondents was 60 points (full score is 80 points), with 50–59 being the most common range (51.9%), followed by 60–69 points (43.5%), and 4.4% of cases had more than 70 points. A multivariate logistic regression model revealed that respondents’ age (40–49 vs. 18–29; odds ratio (OR) = 2.53, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.31–4.87), education level (senior high vs. primary and junior high, OR = 2.00, 95% CI = 1.03–3.89; college and above vs. primary and junior high, OR = 3.66, 95% CI = 1.84–7.31), experience in undergoing a bone density test (OR = 1.94, 95% CI = 1.28–2.93), and poor physical fitness status (OR = 0.64, 95% CI = 0.43–0.95) were the significant predictors of the osteoporosis health literacy level. The osteoporosis health literacy of institutional caregivers is moderate, and there are many items that are worthy of attention in future health promotion programs. This study highlights risk factors related to a lower level of osteoporosis healthy literacy such as older age, less education, no experience of bone density test, and poor physical fitness that highlight the need to raise further awareness in order to improve caregivers’ bone health.

To explore the optimal combination of Mg2+, Sr2+ and mineralized collagen (nHAC) with two different proportions of hydroxyapatite (HA) and collagen (COL) on differentiation of MC3T3-E1 and the underlying mechanism, as well as achieve bone osseointegration. MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured in a complete medium with Mg2+ at the concentration of 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 mmol/L, Sr2+ at the concentration of 0, 3, 6, 12 mmol/L, and the impregnation solution of 3:7 and 5:5nHAC. The differentiation of MC3T3-E1 was measured by expression of osteogenic genes and proteins including Runx-2, BMP-2 and OCN and determined the activation of PI3K/AKT/GSK3β/β-catenin signaling pathway in 12 mmol/LMg 2 ++3 mmol/LSr 2 ++3:7nHAC group. Osteoporosis was induced in 18 female rats by means of ovariectomy, the implants were immersed in 60 mmol/LMg 2 ++15 mmol/LSr 2 ++3:7nHAC impregnation solution and implanted into the mesial alveolar fossa for immediate implantation. The osseointegration of the implants was observed by Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and histology at 4 and 8 weeks. The groups cultured with 12 mmol/LMg 2 +, 3 mmol/LSr 2 + and 3:7nHAC impregnation solution showed the osteogenic genes and proteins were significantly higher respectively (P < 0.05), as well as p-Akt, p-GSK3β and β-catenin proteins (P < 0.05). CLSM and histology showed that the implant surface was surrounded by thick lamellar bone plate, and the trabecular bone were dense and continuous in the impregnation solution. These results found that magnesium and strontium ion-loaded mineralized collagen play an critical role in up-regulating the cells activity through PI3K/AKT/GSK3β/β-catenin signaling pathway and could be promote the formation of osseointegration.
