Oscillations and Spiking Pairs: Behavior of a Neuronal Model with STDP Learning

Abstract: In a biologically plausible but computationally simplified integrate-andfire neuronal population, it is observed that transient synchronized spikes can occur repeatedly. However, groups with different properties exhibit different periods and different patterns of synchrony. We include learning mechanisms in these models. The effects of spike-timing-dependent plasticity have been known to play a distinct role in information processing in the central nervous system for several years. In this letter, neuronal mod… Show more

“…Overall, 100 prepost pairings induced tLTD (68±7%, p=0.0010, n=10), which was CB1R-mediated since AM251 (3µM) fully prevented tLTD expression (103±7%, p=0.5917, n=5) ( Fig. 2B), in agreement with previous results (Pawlak and Kerr, 2008;Shen et al, 2008;Fino et al, 2010;Cui et al, 2015).…”

“…We investigated the involvement of TrkB activation in bidirectional eCB-plasticity induced by three distinct Hebbian activity patterns: (i) the eCB-LTD induced by a low frequency stimulation (LFS) protocol (600 cortical stimulations at 1 Hz) (Fino et al, 2005; Puente et al, 2011), (ii) the eCB-tLTD induced with 100 STDP pairings (Shen et al, 2008;Fino et al, 2010;Paillé et al, 2013;Cui et al, 2015) and (iii) the eCB-tLTP induced by low numbers of STDP pairings (i.e. ~10) (Cui et al, 2015;Cui et al, 2016;Cui et al, 2018;Xu et al, 2018).…”

“…Such self-organization can occur even without external stimulation, but then one crucial feature in obtaining stable functional groups that persist over time is the degree of coupling between individual neurons. Such spike-time precision can also be obtained in parallel to oscillatory spiking activity at the scale of a population of neurons, hence providing two different levels of synchrony (Shen et al, 2008). …”
