“…They are endo and/or ectosymbionts found associated with bivalves, gastropods, echinoderms, echiurids, brachiopods, balanoglossids and ascidians, and inside polychaets' tubes and crustacean burrows (SCHMITT et al, 1973;MANNING & MORTON, 1987;CAMPOS, 1990;HARRISON & HANLEY, 2005). Moreover, pinnotherid crabs are widely distributed along the marine coastal habitats of almost all oceans (SCHMITT et al, 1973;MARTINS & D'INCAO, 1996). Despite their ecological importance and their great diversity, the information about the population demography of the pea crabs is still scarce, especially about those species that inhabit the Atlantic coast of the Americas.…”

“…They describe the peculiar granular aspect of the lateral margins of the carapace but without providing an illustration of the third maxilliped. Martins and D'Incao (1996) have reported C. stebbingi from Brazil (São Paulo and Santa Catarina), with most specimens also collected from Clypeaster subdepressus (some specimens had no indication as far as host is concerned). Their illustration of a male also features minute granules distributed along the anterolateral portion of the carapace, and a small depression adjacent to the outer angle of each orbit, with minutes granules, is clearly observed on their illustration.…”

“…Fenucci (1975 accordingly synonymized both species and his conclusions were later followed by Campos (1996). Martins & D'Incao (1998), as well as Melo (1998), Boschi et al (1992) and Bezerra et al (2006), subsequently revalidated both Melo's species. This study reassesses the conclusions of Martins & D'Incao (1998).…”

This study reassesses the conclusions of Martins & D'Incao (1998). Fabia felderi Gore, 1986, and Pinnotheres hemphilli (Rathbun, 1918), are re-described and the latter species is transferred to Fabia Dana, 1851.…”
