Os Impactos E Os Determinantes Relacionados Ao Acometimento De Parasitoses Em Crianças

Abstract

Objective: To assess the incidence and risk factors related to complicated pneumonia and parapneumonic pleural effusion. Methodology: This is an integrative, qualitative review, carried out in the PubMed and Virtual Health Library Brazil (BVS) databases. Searches were carried out using the following combination of keywords found in Health Sciences Descriptors (DECS): (“parapneumonic pleural effusion*” OR "complicated pneumonia") AND (''child `` OR ''pediatric ``). They were included in English, Portuguese and Spanish, published in the last 5 years, and incomplete articles, reports, case reports, personal opinions, books/book chapters and literature reviews were excluded. Results and Discussion: From the analysis of the studies, the findings regarding the incidence indicated an increase in hospitalizations for pneumonia complicated by parapneumonic effusion, empyema, necrotizing pneumonia or lung abscess in recent years. Presence of heart disease, advanced age and exposure to parental smoking were identified as risk factors. Conclusion: Complicated pneumonia often occurs in older children, it is seen that the risk factors are ethnicity, breastfeeding, vaccination, treatment based on antibiotics or antivirals, viral load and exposure to smoking. In addition, an increase in the incidence of bacterial pneumonia was observed.
