Abstract: Deixamos a Mandioca à tarde. Enfrentamos ventos contrários. No dia seguinte, desviamos para o Sul. Só conseguimos chegar a Rio Fundo à noite, por volta das 5h30. “…Riedel was coming from 'Tejuco' (now Diamantina) back to Rio de Janeiro with Baron Langsdorff's team of naturalists, which at that time included the French zoologist Edouard Ménétriès, a pupil of Cuvier, and the Russian Nester Rubtsov, responsible for collecting data on geography and astronomy; Rugendas, the talented German painter responsible for illustrating the Brazilian flora, fauna and people, had left the group in November 1824, after a serious disagreement with Langsdorff.
