Orthostatic influence on heart rate and blood pressure variability in trained persons with tetraplegia

Abstract: To examine the orthostatic influence on heart rate and blood pressure variability in persons with tetraplegia playing wheelchair basketball, ten trained persons with tetraplegia, ten untrained persons with tetraplegia, and ten able-bodied participated in this study. Spectrum analysis of the ECG R-R interval and blood-pressure on a beat-by-beat basis during head-up tilt 60 degrees sitting were performed. The ratio of the high frequency to total frequency (HF/TF) in the R-R interval decreased from supine (0.5 +/… Show more

“…tetraplegic men and controls. Moreover, no significant differences could be appreciated in the frequency domain parameters of HRV in supine position between the two groups in the present research work, which is in agreement with the previous studies of Otsuka et al20 and Koh et al21 . Otsuka et al 20 found no differences in the R-R interval power spectra among trained complete tetraplegic men, untrained complete tetraplegic men and that of the controls.…”

“…Claydon and Krassioukov 5 observed that the R-R interval decreased significantly in SCI patients and controls in upright position. An higher heart rate in both trained and untrained persons with tetraplegia on change of position from supine to 60 degree was observed by Otsuka et al 20 . The observation in the present study, is similar to the above studies.…”

“…На когорте здоровых людей было доказано, что более высокий уровень физической подготовки связан с улучшением вегетативного контроля сердечно-сосудистой системы, а гиподинамия связана со снижением вегетативного тонуса сердечно-сосудистой системы [45]. У спортсменов с ТСМ на фоне регулярного выполнения физических упражнений были также отмечены улучшения функции кардиоваскулярной системы [18,46,47]. Однако известно, что если физические упражнения проводятся без соблюдения должного контроля интенсивно- [18].…”
