Original Position Statistic Distribution Analysis of Trace Element Segregation in Nickel-base Super Alloy by LA-ICP-MS

Abstract: A new original position statistic distribution analysis method to reflect the different composition distribution and segregation in nickel-base super alloy was developed by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). The distribution of more than 20 trace elements at intragranular solid solution phase and crystal boundary in wrought super alloy GH698 was investigated using the microarea analysis of LA-ICP-MS technique. For most of the trace elements, no significant difference was f… Show more

“…And the defects such as porosity, segregation and coarse grains decrease, thereby improving the quality of the ingot [1][2][3][4][5]. An original position analysis is a new analytical method to determine chemical composition of materials, segregation, porosity and inclusions [6][7][8][9][10]. There is seldom experimental research about the density and segregation analysis for mold casting by the original position analysis.…”

“…Latkoczy et al 118 investigated element distributions in Mg alloys and compared the results to EPMA analysis with the conclusion that LA-ICP-MS analysis is superior in the assessment of trace elements. Hu et al 119 investigated the distributions of trace elements in Ni alloys and found segregation of certain elements within the grain structure. Gierl-Mayer et al 120 presented a study on the distribution of boron in powder metallurgically produced steel samples by LA-ICP-MS which showed to be accumulated on the grain boundaries.…”

“…Original position statistical distribution analysis of metal materials is usually based on spark-source atomic-emission spectroscopy (AES), laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), or laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS). Hitherto, it has been applied to quantitative analysis of elemental segregation in materials such as low-alloy steel, additive manufacturing stainless steel, and nickel-based superalloys [17][18][19][20][21]. However, these traditional characterization methods are destructive, and their spatial resolution needs to be improved.…”
