Organoiron Compounds for Selective Organic Transformations

Abstract: This review provides applications of organoiron compounds in organic synthesis, focusing on [(η 5 -C 5 H 5 )(CO) 2 Fe]-substituted complexes. Covering recent work the preparation of representative compounds, their reactivity and some details of selected reaction mechanisms are discussed.

“…The reaction of an acyl complex with an electrophile is a common route to alkoxycarbene complexes of iron [Fe(C 5 R 5 )(CO) 2 {C(OR 2 )R 1 }] + (R = H, Me). The required alkyl‐ and aryl‐substituted acyl derivatives [Fe(C 5 R 5 )(CO) 2 {C(O)R 1 }] are in turn accessible by the reaction of the ferrate complex [M][Fe(C 5 R 5 )(CO) 2 ] (M = Na, K) with the appropriate acyl chloride 6…”

“…Because of the inherent cost efficiency of iron, development of new reactions by using organoiron reagents is an interesting challenge. [6] We have been interested in the unusual reactivity of aryldicarbonylcyclopentadienyliron complexes [CpFe(-CO) 2 Ar] (CpFe(CO) 2 is abbreviated as Fp hereafter) and developed several useful reactions with FpAr in organic synthesis. [7] Along this line, we have developed an efficient method for the synthesis of the alkynyl analogues FpA C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (C C À R) by Sonogashira-type cross-coupling reactions of FpI with terminal alkynes.…”
