This paper explores the challenges and expresses some reflections on information and Knowledge/Wise (KW) societies and Socio-technical Systems (SS) based on an Organizational Ecosystems (ECOs) approach. It considers the SS constituting KW societies as a set of heterogeneous and interactive actors and presents considerations on the challenges faced by an organizational Ecosystem (ECO), challenges that require organizations actions towards treatment of organizations as living beings inserted in ECOs, aiming to leverage organizational synergism and collaborative efforts; information partnership and collaborative relationships between ECOs members; a more fairly shared leadership, empowering bottom up processes on organizational ECOs decision making. It is presented a brief case regarding Brazil's Public Research and Development arrangement "National Institute of Science and Technology in Micro and Nano-electonic Systems" (NAMITEC), relating this initiative advances and problems in terms of multi-organizational cooperation and transference of technological knowledge to the productive sector and to society.

In 2010, the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) spent a quarter of its total healthcare budget to send its citizens abroad for medical treatment. These patients, consumers who cross international borders for the purpose of obtaining healthcare, are participants in a phase of globalization referred to as “medical travel” or “medical tourism.” Their movement coincides with the cross-border flow of health services, professionals, and companies, shaping a global industry valued at as much as U.S. $55 billion. In the years ahead, this industry is expected to grow—and, in doing so, to bring a greater number of national health systems in contact with international patients and providers. Bearing witness to these changes, the UAE has increasingly looked to medical travel—and attracting international patients—to improve its health system and to diversify its economy. These outcomes, however, overshadow the equity effects that may result from the influx of such patients, potentially crowding out local residents, especially expatriates, who may see little from these gains. This working paper provides evidence, based on the examples of Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, that medical travel presents the UAE with a mix of equity benefits and harms. To manage these harms, the paper recommends that local governments and healthcare providers incorporate monitoring and planning mechanisms into their medical travel initiatives.

The business ecosystems domain emerged as result to the necessity of assessment of new economic procedures and mechanisms between the economic agents. Defined as a community of interrelated agents, a business ecosystems approach can emphasize the most important features of modern economy. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a comparative analysis of business ecosystems with biological ones in order to identify the most important internal features which can describe the symbiosis process. In biological field, the symbiosis is defined as an association of individuals from different type of species. In the business field, this form of association is defined in terms of co-evolution and cooperation. From this point of view it is important to analyze main species who are involved into this type of relations. The starting point of this research is to define reference dimension whose knowledge is important in order to understand involved entities. At this step the concept of innovation will be considered as knowledge reference. The research method will be conducted based on the identification of different categories of elements, individuals and their integration into specific species. This integration will be realized by grouping individuals according to analyzed common features. The foreseen result is to highlight how the individuals knowledge about innovation contributes to the common vision of the entire group. The next step of the research framework will provide a comparative analysis between the established groups of individuals. The main outcome of this research is to provide a new model of reintegration of individuals from different domains of activity not limited by organizational boundaries. As result, this paper will provide a framework for understanding the symbiosis from two points of views: the fusion process between the agents and the knowledge transfer as its result.
