We report a longitudinal study of Jeitinho brasileiro (salient cultural characteristic of Brazil) during a period of significant political instability. Previous historical and anthropological sources have pointed to the importance of political instability for cultural changes in behaviors such as jeitinho. We are the first to examine possible individual-level dynamics over time, reporting a 3-year longitudinal study ( N = 205) of two dimensions that differentiate keeping a socially pleasant social climate ( simpatia) from trickery and breaking social norms. Using longitudinal network analysis, we found (a) reinforcing links between behavioral nodes within each of these two jeitinho clusters over time, (b) few between-cluster links, (c) within-person and between-person components were distinct, and (d) only the between-person structure resembled the overall factor structure. Overall, our data show that cultural behaviors are systematically changing during a political crisis, offering first insights how cultural systems may change via shifts in individual behavior.

O objetivo do artigo é identificar quais variáveis podem influenciar nos Índices de Percepção da Corrupção dos países, por meio de uma análise da atuação simultânea de variáveis relacionadas aos fatores social, político, jurídico e econômico. A metodologia da pesquisa compreende então a construção de um modelo de regressão linear múltipla, representativo da relação entre os Índices de Percepção da Corrupção dos países e conjunto de variáveis analisadas. Para a coleta de dados, informações disponibilizadas por vários sítios de internet internacionais (Transparency International, NationMaster database, World Bank, Fraser Institute of Economics, Freedom House and the United Nations) foram acessadas, a partir das quais criou-se um banco de dados para a realização da análise de regressão linear múltipla, seguindo os pressupostos desta técnica e, considerando uma modelagem com quatro hipóteses. Os resultados encontrados apontaram que, ao serem analisadas simultaneamente, as variáveis estaticamente significantes do modelo (p-value<=10) estão relacionadas aos fatores: i) político (Liberdade Civil e Direitos Políticos), ii) social (Educação e Renda Nacional Bruta Per Capita) e iii) jurídico (Imparcialidade do Júri e Integridade do Sistema Jurídico). Quanto as variáveis relacionadas ao fator econômico, não foram encontradas evidências estatísticas (p-value>0,10) de que as mesmas influenciem nos Índices de Percepção da Corrupção. A pesquisa aqui abordada auxilia os formuladores de políticas públicas dos países na concepção de políticas públicas que visem influenciar, de forma positiva, no Índice de Percepção da Corrupção destes.

<div><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="left"><tbody><tr><td align="left" valign="top"><p class="AbstractText">The Corruption Eradication Commission is introducing new laws on corruption. However, the crucial questions are whether the said laws effectively decrease corruption cases, including corruption in public procurement. The number of factors that result in corruption is increasing, especially in the public procurement sector. One of the most important things that can't be ignored is that the public doesn't take part in supervision. This study aims to examine how to reduce corruption in public procurement through an effort towards good governance. The study takes <em>a socio-legal approach. By reviewing some review literature relevant to public procurement corruption, as well as reports by multiple authorities tracking the same subject. </em>This study<em> </em>concludes<em> </em>that<em> public procurement law policies in Indonesia have not worked well. This is one of them, influenced by corrupt law enforcement officials and the irresponsible political elite. As a result, existing legal regulations are not properly implemented.</em></p></td></tr></tbody></table></div>
