Organization Meta-Design Model

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop the organization meta-design model which could serve as a framework for comparing results of researches on organization design. The study is conceptual in nature and draws upon other research findings. Firstly, it presents the system approach characteristics which form a set of assumptions for the organization design research. Secondly, those characteristics are linked to organization designer roles. Thirdly, the perspectives for the organization design research emerge from the elaboration. Eventually, the elements of organization meta-design model are presented within the framework that is constructed out of perspectives. Research leads to the conclusion that organization meta-design model consists of four elements: strategy, structure,process and culture. Each of those elements is a different configuration of influence (external or internal) and drive (for integrity or for differentiation). The organization meta-design model shall be applied as a framework in the empirical studies so that results of organization design studies could be compared. The originality of work is based on proposing an organization design model that is universal and enables the comparability studies of organization design across different geographical regions and industries.
