The Luoquan Formation provides a record of the Ediacaran-Cambrian glaciation in the North China Craton. The sedimentary record is well expressed in the Henan Province along the central China orogen, and includes a rich archive of striated pavements, diamictites, and dropstone-bearing laminites. A reappraisal of the sedimentological evolution of the Luoquan Formation notes the following features. First, striated pavements with crosscutting striations do not necessarily record multiple phases of glacial (re)advance, but more likely originate through the development of sticky spots in a palaeo-ice stream setting. The development of obstacles, basal adfreezing, or porosity variations in the subglacial substrate resulted in curvilinear and bifurcating striae, which can superficially be mistaken for crosscutting striae in isolated sections. Second, "massive" diamictites as previously described are in fact commonly weakly stratified, and there is a continuum from dropstone-bearing rhythmically bedded shales and siltstones, through stratified diamictites to massive diamictites. This continuum is believed indicative of deposition by rain out from debris rich ice for those diamictites with less pronounced stratification, in contrast to the mass flow hypothesis previously suggested. Third, the presence of large-scale, recumbent folds with associated thrusts is described at the type section. The suite of large-scale deformation structures, measuring >30 m in amplitude, is sealed by undeformed diamictites. The deformation structures are interpreted to reflect soft-sediment deformation produced through ice bulldozing. Integrating these observations, it is proposed that the Luoquan Formation was deposited in a large proglacial lake setting, with a range of ice contact to ice distal environments recognized. Реферат. На основании актуапалеонтологических выводов, сделанных по формам микрофоссилий и их морфологических рядов из докембрийских разрезов Байкальской складчатой области и Анабаро-Оленекского региона, предполагается палеобиологическая принадлежность части форм из разреза стратотипа рифея Южного Урала. Дана краткая литологическая характеристика стратотипического разреза рифея. Возраст серий и свит скорректирован по последним радиохронологическим данным. Показана краткая история исследований микрофоссилий из отложений рифея в Уральском стратотипе. В результате изучения ассоциаций микрофоссилий из черных сланцев зигазинокомаровской и авзянской свит среднего рифея и зильмердакской, инзерской и укской свит верхнего рифея стратотипа Южного Урала среди новых форм микрофоссилий авзянской свиты описан Octoedryxium Rud., известный ранее с позднего рифея. Мелкие объемные формы сопоставляются с бентосом хемолитотрофных или серных бактерий. Богатая ассоциация микрофоссилий верхнего рифея включает разнообразные цианобактерии и акритархи. Из акритарх интересны новый вид Germinosphaera aff. Jankauskasii Butt. и формы, сопоставляемые с десмидиевыми зелеными водорослями. Найдено несколько форм, которые в неопротерозое юга Восточной Сибири входят в ассоциацию микрофоссилий, сравниваемых с ценобиальными зелеными водорослями. В верхнем рифее обнаружены объемные формы Retiforma Mikh. и Bavlinella faveolata Schep., известные ранее только с венда. Показано, что различие таксономического состава микробиот во многом определяется различием седиментационных обстановок. Abstract. Paleobiological attribution of part of microfossils from a section of South Ural is suggested onthe basis of the actuapaleontologic conclusions drawn in forms and their morphologic series from Precambrian section of the Baikal folded area and the Anabar-Olenek region. The short lithologic characteristic of Riphean type section lasting more than one billion years is provided. The age of series and formations is corrected according to the latest isotope chronological data. The history of studying of microfossils of Riphean stratotype is shown. Microfossil associations had been studied from the Zigazino-Komarov and Avzyan Formations of the Middle Riphean, and Zilmerdak, Inzer and Uk Formations of the Upper Riphean. Among new forms of the Avzyan Formation, Octaedryxium Rud. had been described, which was known earlier from the Late Riphean. Small volume-preserving forms are identified as benthos of chemolithotrophic or sulfur bacterias. Rich microfossil association of the Upper Riphean includes various cyanobacteria and acritarchs. Of the latter, a new species Trachyhystrichosphaera Tim. et Herm. is interesting, as well as forms, identified as desmidian green algae. Some forms are found which in the Neoproterozoic of the South of Eastern Siberia are included into association of the microfossils compared to coenobic green algae.
