“…Consequently, coating implants with antibiotic eluting materials seems to be one of the best options to prevent the infection and formation of biofilms [ [3] , [4] , [5] , [6] ]. One mechanism devised to overcome this challenge is the painting of surfaces of devices which can be said to be a traditional means [ [7] , [8] , [9] ]. However, this method may not be safe and reliable since any minimal scratch can still provide a surface for the bacteria to thrive.…”

“…The photosensitizers can be activated under a light source to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) to kill cancer cells. In particular, PDT can avoid systemic toxicity with fewer side effects than chemotherapy due to its high spatiotemporal selectivity ( Li et al, 2018 ; Zhang et al, 2019 ; Nguyen et al, 2022 ). To achieve synergistic therapeutic effects with different mechanisms for eliminating breast cancer, combination therapies involving both PDT and PTT have been developed ( Su et al, 2015 ; Lee et al, 2022 ; Xu et al, 2022 ).…”

“…[8][9][10] Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) is a noninvasive therapeutic strategy for the combat of microbe infections. 11,12 In PDI, photosensitizers (PSs) and light illumination are utilized to generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can cause oxidative damage to membrane lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins and induce the death of pathogens. With the superiority of limited antibiotic resistance, low systemic toxicity, and high specificity, PDI has attracted increasing attention.…”
