Organic FETs using biodegradable almond gum as gate dielectric: A promising way towards green electronics

Abstract: Green electronics is an emerging field of research which aims to manufacture devices in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. Usually, the involved electronic materials are naturally occurring and non-toxic. Also, they can be processed using simple, low energy deposition processes and fabrication techniques. In this work, we present low voltage organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) using almond gum (AG) as the gate dielectric. AG is a natural, biodegradable insulator material that can be directly… Show more

“…et al in 2018 [ 108 ], who not only focused on the chemical stability of the electrical properties of such a material when used in ambient conditions, but also demonstrate an interest in increasing the mechanical resistance of devices such as FET upon repetitive bending. More original was the work of Seck et al, who published an almond gum dielectric to be used in an OFET [ 109 ]. Almond gum is a natural and biodegradable material, which is water-soluble, which they show to present good dielectric properties.…”

“…[54,74,147] Other architectures used for the implementation of green OFETs are the bottom-gate bottom-contacts (BG-BC) and top-gate top-contact (TG-BC) structures. [156][157][158][159] BG-BC and TG-BC architectures have found application also for the implementation of ion-gated transistors, including both EGOFETs and OECTs. [69,74,[160][161][162] Since in ion-gated transistors an ionically-conductive and electrically-insulating material is used for the electrostatic coupling of the gate with the channel, a simple yet effective implementation approach commonly used for EGOFETs and OECTs is based on lateral-gate bottomcontact (LG-BC) architecture.…”
