The first syntheses of monomeric and oligomeric aziridine complexes of copper(I) are described. Cu(I)Br (1) reacts with a series of different aziridine derivatives (C(2)H(3)PhNH (2), C(2)H(2)Me(2)NH (3), C(2)H(2)Me(2)NC(2)H(2)Me(2)NH(2) (4)) to give the neutral dimeric complex [CuBr(C(2)H(3)PhNH)(2)](2) (5) and the ionic hexameric complex [Cu(6)Br(5)(C(2)H(2)Me(2)NH)(6)]Br (6) with terminal bound aziridine ligands as well as the neutral monomeric complex [CuBr(C(2)H(2)Me(2)NC(2)H(2)Me(2)NH(2))] (7) where the dimerized aziridine acts as a N,N'-chelating ligand. After purification, all of the complexes were fully characterized and their IR, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra are reported and discussed. The single crystal structure analysis revealed distorted tetrahedral geometry for the copper(I) centres in the complexes 5 and 6 and a trigonal planar structure for complex 7. In the oligomers the copper centres are bridged by two μ(2)- (5) or two μ(3)- and three μ(4)-bromido ligands (6), respectively.

The synthesis of bimetallic alkoxides has been followed by the preparation of intriguingly stable heterometal alkoxides containing three or four different metal atoms in the same molecular species, which has led to the pos11ibility of molecularly designing a single source precursor suited to the composition of the targeted final ceramic. This has been made feasible by the extraordinary stability of the framework of heterometal alkoxides, which appears to remain intact during the initial hydrolysis reactions in the S-G process.The characterisation (by sophisticated physicochemical techniques including X-Ray crystal structure elucidation in some cases) of heterometal alkoxides appears to have added a new dimension to heterometal coordination systems which appear to be uniquely stable without the presence of metal-metal bonds or auxiliary ligands like CO, etc., enerally required for !ltabilising polymetallic S)Stems kno~n so far.

PIRES DE MATOS, Protactinium(V) Ethoxide 71view that an intermediate of large negative charge is formed, some of which is not further reduced or fully reduced, due to the repulsive effect of the diffuse double layer field. A comparison of the limiting currents at various stages of coulometric reduction shows that as the current density is increased and as the electrolysis proceeds, the cathode potential decreases from about -0.4 Y vs. SCE at 1mA to about -0.8 V vs. SCE at 20 mA. Although the potential never gets to more negative values than the half wave potential of the second wave (-1.09 V), the height of both waves decreases gradually as more current is passed. This fact can only be explained by assuming a chemical interaction between the various species of technetium present in the solution. Apparently, these species are not in equilibrium, as the ratio i x /i 2 does not remain constant, but decreases continuously as more charge is passed through the solution. At present a satisfactory explanation cannot be offered for this phenomenon.Effect of the supporting electrolyte composition on the polarogramsThe pn of the solutions strongly affects the shape and the location of the polarograms. The effect is strongly pronounced on the first reduction step. At Ph2 a sharp maximum is observed on the first wave, and it gradually looses its height as the ρ Η is increased. At pjj.5 it disappears completely. This maximum cannot be suppressed by the conventional maximum suppressors (e.g. Triton x-100) indicating that it is presumably connected with the change of the double-l/ 3,/ 4/5 / y / // / / "0 0 0 0 0 -E,Volt vs. SCE Tig. 3.
