Orbital resonances in discs around braneworld Kerr black holes

Abstract: Rotating black holes in the brany universe of the Randall-Sundrum type are described by the Kerr geometry with a tidal charge b representing the interaction of the brany black hole and the bulk spacetime. For b<0 rotating black holes with dimensionless spin a>1 are allowed. We investigate the role of the tidal charge b in the orbital resonance model of QPOs in black hole systems. The orbital Keplerian, the radial and vertical epicyclic frequencies of the equatorial, quasicircular geodetical motion are given an… Show more

“…The effect of even weak external uniform magnetic field of a magnetized Schwarzschild black hole on the radial and latitudinal frequencies of harmonic oscillations around a stable equatorial orbit is substantial; the magnetic field influence can erase all "strange" effects, like those coming from the external dimension in the braneworld model [4,5]. The single isolated charged particle dynamics can be imprinted in description of diluted collisionless plasma toroidal structures [37], the kinetic description of collisionless plasma can effectively reflect the epicyclic motion of charged particles [53].…”

“…Then we give the circular geodesics of the special new class with the magnetic Maxwell limit, discuss their properties, and compare them to the well-known Bardeen spacetime. We also give the frequencies of the radial and vertical epicyclic motion, as these frequencies could be relevant in explaining the high-frequency quasiperiodic oscillations [51][52][53] and could thus serve as a strong test of relevance of the regular solutions.…”

“…Tests with electromagnetic radiation include, but are not limited to, the study of the thermal spectrum of thin accretion disks [7][8][9][10], the analysis of the reflection spectrum of thin disks [11][12][13][14], the measurements of the frequencies of quasiperiodic oscillations [15][16][17][18], and the possible future detection of black hole shadows [19][20][21][22][23][24][25]. Among these techniques, x-ray reflection spectroscopy is the only one that can be already used to test astrophysical black holes and promise to be able to provide stringent constraints with the next generation of x-ray facilities [26][27][28].…”
