“…A primary congenital or developmental orbital vascular abnormality was suspected, with thrombosis of the varix precipitated following minor trauma (collision with a coffee table). Acquired orbital varices can occasionally develop following trauma but a preexisting vascular abnormality is usually present . The very young age of this dog, the minor nature of the trauma and the presence of the additional vascular abnormality of absence of the anastomotic branch between the left ventral ophthalmic vein and ipsilateral deep facial vein was highly suggestive of a preexisting vascular malformation.…”

“…The accurate diagnosis of orbital vascular lesions relies on integration of clinical and imaging features, particularly for lesions that lie deep within the orbit. Imaging is used to demonstrate that these lesions are of vascular origin and to localize the lesion to a deep vs. superficial, and intraconal or extraconal, location and for evidence of intracranial extension . These features may influence the management and surgical approach .…”

“…It is a highly malignant tumour, which arises from neuroectodermal cells of the retina and occurs in over 90% of cases in children below the age of 5 years [2]. Early diagnosis can achieve a 5-year survival rate of over 90%, but tumour extension outside the globe is associated with 100% mortality [3].…”
