Orange juice with a high-fat meal prolongs postprandial lipemia in apparently healthy overweight/obese women

Abstract: Objective: We investigated the postprandial response of lipid markers to a high-fat meal (HFM) with two different beverages in apparently healthy normal-weight and overweight/obese women. Subjects and methods: This crossover, randomized study enrolled 36 women, of whom 21 had normal weight (body mass index [BMI] 22 ± 1.8 kg/m 2 ) and 15 had overweight/obesity (BMI 31 ± 3.7 kg/m 2 ). In two different test days, the participants ingested a HFM (37% of energy as saturated fat) with 500 mL of water (HFM-W) or 500 … Show more

“…The OFTT meal was 500 ml which is comparable with other OFTT studies (81,82) . Total meal size increased substantially with the apples (500 ml OFTT þ 200 g apple) and, while similar to other mixed meal studies (11,83) , would potentially lead to differences in acetaminophen distribution, emptying and absorption. Also, for comparison with other studies, it is worth noting that the OFTT beverage is an emulsion of milk fat stabilised by dairy protein and therefore susceptible to pepsinolysis and phase separation in the stomach (84) .…”

“…Intake of fructose in high amounts can promote triglyceride synthesis [2]. I have previously published a research in which a beverage 100% orange juice, with no sugar added, prolonged postprandial lipemia in overweight women apparently healthy [3].…”

I have previously published a research in which a beverage 100% orange juice, with no sugar added, prolonged postprandial lipemia in overweight women apparently healthy [3].SSBs are linked with the development of obesity and associated comorbidities [4]. The effect of SSBs seems to be a consequence of the excess calories provided by their consumption.…”
