Orange and Passion Fruit Wastes Characterization, Substrate Hydrolysis and Cell Growth of Cupriavidus necator, as Proposal to Converting of Residues in High Value Added Product

Abstract: Brazil is the world's largest producer of orange and passion fruit, which are destined mainly for industrialization, generating grand volumes of wastes. The solid portion of these residues is a rich source of pectin -composed mainly of galacturonic acid and neutral sugars, which through the hydrolysis process can be used in biological conversion processes, as the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). This way, we characterized these wastes, followed by the extraction and hydrolysis of pectin for employ a… Show more

“…The high induction of PG production by P. janthinellum VI2R3M can be explained by the low degree of pectin esterification present in this substrate (Locatelli et al 2019) since the exo-PGs catalyze the hydrolysis of the a (1 ? 4) bond between two unmethylated galacturonic acid residues.…”

“…The high induction of PG production by P. janthinellum VI2R3M can be explained by the low degree of pectin esterification present in this substrate (Locatelli et al ) since the exo‐PGs catalyze the hydrolysis of the α (1 → 4) bond between two unmethylated galacturonic acid residues. In recent years there have been many attempts to increase the efficiency of the use of agro‐industrial wastes as sources of carbon in bioprocesses, as their disposal in the environment causes serious pollution problems.…”

“…A novel way to reduce the cost of disposing of biological waste while enhancing the fruit juice processing industry is to recover value from waste generated during the fruit processing process. However, just a few articles have examined the subject of pectin recovery from byproducts of passion fruit (Locatelli et al, 2019;Sharma et al, 2006). However, the majority are high ester pectin (Kulkarni and Vijayanand, 2010).…”
