“…In previous studies, it is reported that scaling, polishing, and root planning should be done irrespective of the stage/trimester of pregnancy so as to promote good oral health. 19 20 It is found that less food intake during pregnancy (especially during first trimester) was associated with gingival bleeding due to deficient nutrients needed otherwise to protect the gingiva as well as the immune system from getting compromised. 21…”

“…A recent study by Huda et al [29] showed a statistically significant increase (two-fold, p < 0.05) in oral neutrophil counts in BoP -bleeding on probing index; WBC -white blood cells; bPP -the number of bleeding periodontal pockets; TC -total cholesterol; LDL-C -low-density lipoprotein; PD -pocket depth; HDL-C -high density lipoprotein; * -statistical significance.…”

“…Also, the linkage studies should focus on assessing the degree of inflammation rather than its effect on the periodontal tissues. Some studies assessed periodontal status utilizing traditional clinical diagnostic parameters like probing depth, clinical attachment loss and gingival bleeding 6,7 whereas others assessed inflammatory mediators 8 and microbiological methods 9,10 …”
