Oral Lesion as the first Clinical Presentation in Sarcoidosis: A Case Report

Abstract: Sarcoidosis is a common multi-system disease characterized histolopathologically by the formation of non-caseating granulomas in the affected tissues. The oral involvement of sarcoidosis is relatively rare with less than 70 reported cases in literature while an oral lesion as the initial presenting sign is even less common. Oral lesions of sarcoidosis may mimic the lesions of other serious systemic diseases including Crohn's disease and tuberculosis as well as lesions localized to the orofacial region such as … Show more

“…The gingiva and oral mucosa are rarely affected by sarcoidosis . Only about 70 cases of oral sarcoidosis have been reported . The oral lesions may be solitary or multiple and are sometimes the first manifestation of sarcoidosis, though in most cases they develop only after sarcoidosis has already been diagnosed.…”

“…95 Mucosal disease Oral involvement of sarcoidosis is rare and morphologically can simulate cutaneous diseases with the presence of papules; nodules; erythema, including strawberry gums; and ulcerations. [100][101][102][103] Any portion of the oral cavity can be affected, and this can be the presenting sign of systemic disease. 102 Within the oral cavity, the buccal mucosa, gingiva, lips, tongue, and floor of mouth were most commonly affected, followed Cutaneous Sarcoidosis by the palate and submandibular glands.…”
