“…The findings of this study on reported risky and preventive behaviors for OPC are concerning. Indeed, smoking was declared by 30.9%, and, similarly to other studies ( 20 , 48 , 49 ), oral sex was experienced by a large majority (85.9%), with 12.1% reporting more than one oral sex partner in the previous year. These results, coupled with a low adherence to preventive measures, such as HPV vaccination (22.5%), demonstrate the potentials for expecting high incidence of OPC in women, in the absence of interventions aimed at increasing awareness on this issue.…”

“…The progression of PVL to VC could not be associated with the traditional risk factors, and it commonly affects older females 3. The reported HPV prevalence in PVL may range from 0% to 88%, and the putative role of human papillomavirus (HPV) is still controversial 17 18. In our case, the patient was a young male, a former smoker and negative for HPV.…”

“…Several studies have demonstrated that the HPV status of OPSCC patients is associated with improved survival outcomes [ 70 , [124] , [125] , [126] ]. One of the early studies conducted by Gillison and colleagues [ 127 ] showed a remarkable finding.…”

“…In Literature it is largely assessed the positive prognostic value of HPV infection in OPSCC [ 70 , [125] , [126] , [127] ] and it is also known that OPSCC is mainly associated with HPV infection, meanwhile oral cancer is primarily associated with tobacco and alcohol [ 137 ]. For this reason, the role of HPV in oral cancer is unclear.…”
