Oral health status of children and young adults with autism spectrum disorders: systematic review and meta‐analysis

Abstract: Prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease in children and young adults with ASD can be considered as high, pointing to the need for oral health policies focused on these individuals.

“…A recent Cochrane review [da Silva et al, 2016] showed that oral health education programmes in combination with STB and fluoridated toothpaste may show a beneficial effect on dmfs (low-quality evidence) and dmft (low-quality evidence), but may show little effect on DMFS (low-quality evidence) and DMFT (moderate-quality evidence).
