Oral health status among long-term hospitalized adults: a cross sectional study

Abstract: Background. Many Long-Term Care (LTC) institutionalized patients are the most frail and functionally dependent among the geriatric population and have significant oral health disparities. They often suffer from dental neglect due to limited access to appropriate professional dental care. These patients have chronic health situations and are treated with medications, which increase their risk of oral diseases. Despite the growth in elderly population in Israel, there is insufficient data regarding their oral hea… Show more

“…Comorbidity in this population makes them especially susceptible to oral pathologies, often as a result of the medication they are taking, which increase the risk of tooth decay through hyposalivation [ 10 ]. In addition, some disorders may give rise to physical, cognitive or even motivational limitations that interfere with the development and habit of practicing good oral hygiene [ 11 , 15 , 16 ].…”

“…Some of them have been listed in the “Red List of China’s Biodiversity—Macrofungi” [ 75 ]. The high diversity was supported by another ITS barcoding analysis in which 3 out of 15 pieces of dried Chinese porcini mushrooms in a single commercial packet in London, England represented new species [ 52 ], one of which was also later identified in a US grocery store [ 53 ]. Furthermore, 9 out of 159 species are known as poisonous mushrooms that can cause severe adverse health effects in people, including deaths ( Table 2 ).…”

“…[ 49 , 50 ]. There have been several sporadic mushroom molecular diversity surveys of local grocery stores in New York [ 51 ], London [ 52 ], and mushroom dietary supplement from a company called New Chapter, Inc. (Brattleboro, VT, USA) [ 53 ]. However, most of these surveys are geographically limited and had relatively small sample sizes.…”

“…Mostly, they have the highest species richness in the Neotropics but patterns of ant diversity and distributions are still not very well defined (Ryder Wilkie et al, 2010). Competitions in biological communities giving rise to "assembly rules" that forces the species to co-exist in their respective habitats (Yusah et al, 2018). Ant communities in tropical countries often display a particular pattern of assemblage known as "ant mosaic" with mutually exclusive niches (Fayle et al, 2013).…”
