Oral health related quality-of-life outcomes of partially edentulous patients treated with implant-supported single crowns or fixed partial dentures

Abstract: BackgroundOral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is afflicted by different variables. Limited information is available regarding the impact of different phases of implant therapy on OHRQoL of edentulous patients. This study was carried out to assess the OHRQoL of patients treated with implant-supported single crowns or fixed partial dentures.Material and MethodsA total of 79 healthy partially edentulous subjects needing implant therapy were incorporated in this study. Before placement of the implants, th… Show more

“…The outcomes support the observed clinical findings (healthy peri‐implant tissues) and the relatively low number of technical complications. Longer‐term studies on dental implant therapy with or without sinus grafting applying OHIP questionnaires revealed similar decreasing OHIP values during the follow‐up after successful therapy (AlZarea, ; Petricevic, Celebic, & Rener‐Sitar, ; Schiegnitz et al., ). The observed OHIP values then tend to reach values similar to the ones of healthy subjects without any need for treatment (John, Micheelis, & Biffar, ), thereby revealing an increased patient satisfaction.…”

“…Since the first titanium implant was placed in humans in 1965, implant therapy has become very popular and has been proven to be a predictable and successful treatment option to replace missing teeth . However, bone resorption and ridge dimension changes following tooth extraction can challenge clinicians’ ability to provide a restorative‐driven implant placement.…”

“…Many studies have investigated patients’ expectations and satisfaction with different prosthetic treatments, such as removable dentures and implant‐supported FDPs . However, the dental literature still lacks consensus about predictors of patient satisfaction for different types of prosthetic rehabilitations, as well as the influence of different types of prosthetic treatment on patients’ expectations and satisfaction.…”
