Résumé -Les tumeurs à cellules granuleuses (TCG) sont des tumeurs rares de siège ubiquitaire avec une prédilection pour la région cervico-faciale. Dans la cavité buccale, elles sont souvent localisées sur la langue. Elles sont plus fréquentes chez la femme avec un sex-ratio de 3/1 et un pic de fréquence dans la quatrième et la cinquième décennies. Elles sont le plus souvent bénignes ; des formes malignes ont été décrites dans 1 à 3 % des cas. Elles sont caractérisées par la prolifération de grandes cellules à cytoplasme abondant, granuleux et éosinophile. En raison de leur potentiel récidivant et de leur histologie semblable à celle des formes malignes, l'exérèse chirurgicale complète est recommandée. L'immunohistochimie aide souvent au diagnostic. Les auteurs rapportent l'observation d'une femme âgée de 26 ans consultant pour un nodule de 13 mm, jaunâtre, bien limité, localisé sur le bord droit de la langue et évoluant depuis un an. L'exérèse chirurgicale a été réalisée et l'examen histologique a montré la présence d'une prolifération non encapsulée, infiltrant le muscle strié, faite d'un amas de cellules globuleuses souvent fusiformes, recouverte par un épithélium hyperplasique d'aspect pseudoépithéliomateux. Les cellules avaient un cytoplasme abondant, éosinophile, granuleux et PAS positif. L'étude immunohistochimique a révélé une positivité de la protéine S100 et la NSE. L'ensemble des constatations a permis de conclure à une tumeur à cellules granuleuses sans critères histologiques de malignité. Les suites ont été simples. Au contrôle postopératoire à 18 mois, il n'y avait pas de récidive.Abstract -Granular cell tumor of the tongue : case report and literature review. Granular cell tumors (GCT) are ubiquitary tumors with a predilection for the head and neck region. At the oral level, they are often located on the tongue. They are more frequent in women with a sex ratio of 3/1 and a peak incidence in the fourth and fifth decades of life. They are most often benign. Malignant transformation has been reported in 1-3% of cases. They are characterized by a proliferation of large cells with abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm. Because of their potential recurrence and their morphology that are similar to malignant tumors, complete surgical excision is recommended. Immunohistochemical analysis often helps in diagnosis. We report the case of a 26-year-old woman consulting for a 13 mm nodule, yellowish, very limited, localized on the right margin of the tongue and evolving for one year. Surgical excision was performed. Histological examination showed the presence of a non-encapsulated proliferation infiltrating the striated muscle, consisting of globular clusters of cells often fusiform and topped by pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia. The cytoplasm was abundant, granular, eosinophilic and PAS positive. Immunohistochemical study showed positivity for protein S100 and NSE. The overall findings concluded a granular cell tumor without histological criteria of malignancy. The postoperative course was uneventful. At ...

Objective Granular cell tumour (GCT) is a benign neoplasm that originates from Schwann cells. Within the oral cavity, it usually appears as a lingual nodule and especially amongst female adults. Histologically, GCT shows a proliferation of polygonal cells with eosinophilic granular cytoplasm, which can be associated with a pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia (PEH). In this study, we analyse the main clinicopathological data of intraoral GCT and we compare our results with previous studies. Material and Methods We have studied a series of 56 cases of oral GCT in Spain and Brazil, and we have conducted a systematic review in PubMed, Web of Knowledge and Scopus databases, using the keywords: “granular cell tumour” and oral. Results In our series, GCT appeared as an asymptomatic benign tumour that is more frequent in women and in the tongue. PEH was observed in 32% of the lesions. In the review, we collected 282 cases of oral GCT with a similar clinical profile; seven patients had multiple lesions, and 33% of the cases presented PEH. No cases of malignant oral GCT have been described to date. GCT is an uncommon oral benign neoplasm, mainly unique and asymptomatic, derived from Schwann cells. Conclusions Although the etiopathogenesis of this oral tumour is unknown, its characteristics suggest that it could have a reactive nature. Conducting a complete clinicopathological study in all intraoral GCT is fundamental in order to dismiss other entities, including oral carcinoma.

Cysticercosis is a condition in which a human acts as the intermediate host of the pork tapeworm Taenia solium. Although cysticercosis is a common disease in some regions of the world and can occur in any body site, oral lesions are rare. In this report, we document the case of oral cysticercosis in a 10-year-old boy who sought treatment for an asymptomatic nodule on the dorsal surface of the tongue.
