Oral fatty acid taste sensitivity in healthy young individuals of both sexes is related to body mass index and soluble cd36 serum levels

Abstract: Introduction: Given the increment of overweight and obese children, it is relevant to study not only metabolic but also musculoskeletal consequences that may affect motor functionality such as flat foot in this population. Objetive: To identify the association between nutritional status and the prevalence of flat foot in Chilean children from 6 to10 years old. Methods: Z-score of body mass index and footprint using Hernandez-Corvo methodology were recorded and analyzed from 388 school children (52.3% girls). A… Show more

“…Obese subjects had a 5.8 times higher risk of sCD36 in the third tertile than normal‐weight controls. However, in another study, BMI was negatively correlated with the sCD36 level in young women 92 . The association of sCD36 with BMI needs to be studied in larger populations.…”

“…However, in another study, BMI was negatively correlated with the sCD36 level in young women. 92 The association of sCD36 with BMI needs to be studied in larger populations. The effect of sCD36 may increase BMI and promote the development of obesity and associated metabolic diseases if sCD36 still has domains where lipid ligands bind.…”

“…According to Bricio-Barrios et al, people with mutations in CD36 have a lower perception of lipids, causing a greater preference for fats and oils. Moreover, the combination of low levels of this receptor with a high sensitivity threshold for fatty acids was observed in overweight and obese people, which is evidence of an inadequate lipid taste perception 10 . Another important factor is taste receptors.…”

“…These animals also showed lower levels of fat mass and triglycerides stored in the liver. It has been hypothesized that the ablation of these receptors reduced the activity in adipocytes (lipid metabolism alteration) and the pancreas (diminished hyperinsulinemia), conferring a protective effect against fat accumulation 10 .…”
