ORAC-DR: A generic data reduction pipeline infrastructure

Abstract: ORAC-DR is a general purpose data reduction pipeline system designed to be instrument and observatory agnostic. The pipeline works with instruments as varied as infrared integral field units, imaging arrays and spectrographs, and sub-millimeter heterodyne arrays & continuum cameras. This paper describes the architecture of the pipeline system and the implementation of the core infrastructure. We finish by discussing the lessons learned since the initial deployment of the pipeline system in the late 1990s.Comme… Show more

“…Imaging and removal of the host contribution The LCOGT gri images were pre-processed using the Observatory Reduction and Acquisition Control Data Reduction pipeline 55 . To remove the host contribution, we performed image subtraction using the pre-discovery DECam gri images as templates.…”

“…• Ingestion: The LCOGT network is a world-wide facility that is able to observe the full sky nearly continuously (Brown et al 2013). At the end of the night for each LCOGT site, the raw data are preprocessed using the lcogtorac pipeline (Brown et al 2013;Jenness & Economou 2015). The prereduced data are then sent to the IPAC archive, where LCOGT users can access them.…”

“…23 The instrumental magnitudes were calibrated to several nearby stars from SDSS, which were transformed into the Landolt (1983) system using the empirical prescription measured by Robert Lupton. 24 LCOGT images were preprocessed using the Observatory Reduction and Acquisition Control Data Reduction pipeline (ORAC-DR; Jenness & Economou 2015). Photometry was then extracted using the PyRAF-based lcogtsnpipe pipeline (see Appendix B of Valenti et al 2016) to perform PSF fitting and calibration to the AAVSO Photometric All-Sky Survey (APASS; Henden et al 2009) for BV and SDSS Data Release 8 (Aihara et al 2011) for gri.…”
