Abstract:Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has markedly decreased HIV-associated mortality. It consists of a combination of three antiretroviral drugs from four different classes: nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, protease inhibitors and inhibitors of virus-cell fusion.
