Background: The chin is important for facial appearance, affecting overall balance and harmony of the face. The purpose of this study was to evaluate effectiveness of the hyaluronic acid filler Restylane Defyne for chin augmentation and correction of chin retrusion versus a no-treatment control. Methods: Male and female subjects, aged 22 years or older, with mild to moderate chin retrusion, were randomized 3:1 to the hyaluronic acid filler Restylane Defyne (n = 107) or no treatment (n = 33). Assessments included live, blinded evaluations on a validated chin retrusion scale (Galderma Chin Retrusion Scale), aesthetic improvement (Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale), subject-reported FACE-Q Satisfaction with Chin, and safety follow-up. Results: Galderma Chin Retrusion Scale responder rate (≥1 grade improvement) was higher for the hyaluronic acid filler Restylane Defyne (81 percent) than for control (6 percent) (p < 0.001) at week 12, and remained higher at week 48 (74 percent versus 11 percent; p < 0.001). Aesthetic improvement rates were high throughout the study as reported by investigators (≥96 percent) and subjects (≥85 percent). Subject satisfaction was higher in the hyaluronic acid filler Restylane Defyne group than in the control group at week 12 (p < 0.001). In the individual FACE-Q scale items, 87 to 98 percent of subjects were satisfied at week 12. Treatment-related adverse events were mild to moderate. Conclusions: The hyaluronic acid filler Restylane Defyne was safe and effective for augmentation of the chin region to improve the chin profile and associated with high aesthetic improvement and subject satisfaction. Long-term facial changes and clinical correlations in patients with treated acromegaly: a cohort study

Background: Facial abnormality is the most significant feature in acromegaly patients. However, it is unclear whether and how patient facial appearance improves after treatment. This study aimed to identify 3D facial changes in acromegaly patients after surgical treatment. Methods: This study included 30 acromegaly patients who underwent resection of a pituitary GH adenoma. The location and extent of facial changes were identified by comparing baseline and 2-year follow-up 3D images of the face. Relationships between facial changes and GH and IGF-1 were evaluated with simple or multivariable linear regression models. Results: Significant soft tissue improvements were observed in acromegaly patients with complete remission, especially in the nose and lip region. Significant reductions in nasal width (3.46 mm, p < 0.001), tip protrusion (1.18 mm, p=0.003), face curve length (3.89 mm, p=0.004) and vermilion area (1.42 cm3, p=0.001) were observed at the 2-year follow-up. Further, changes in nasal width were associated with decreases in GH (β=4.440, p=0.017), the GH nadir (β=4.393, p=0.011) and IGF-1 (β=5.263, p=0.002). The associations were maintained after adjusting for confounders. Conclusions: Acromegaly patients achieved considerable facial improvements after surgical treatment. The change in nose width was associated with GH and IGF-1 decreases. Better control of patient hormone levels after surgery improves patient facial recovery.

BACKGROUND Chin augmentation with hyaluronic acid (HA) injections can effectively improve mental appearance. OBJECTIVE To introduce a HA injection technique for chin augmentation and evaluate its clinical effects. METHODS A total of 326 patients who received HA injection for chin augmentation from January 2018 to May 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. All patients were injected with the technique according to the anatomical morphology of the chin using a needle and cannula. Patient data were collected, the effects were analyzed, and adverse reactions were observed and recorded. RESULTS There were 326 patients involved in this study with a mean age of 26.4 years. The median volume of HA injected was 1.85 mL. The shape and contour of the chin was significantly improved in all patients immediately after injection. Most improvements were retained up to 6 months and partial improvements remained visible for 12 months. Swelling and pain occurred in 284 patients (87.1%), local ecchymosis occurred in 31 patients (9.5%), and asymmetry was found in 8 patients (2.5%). There were no other complications such as infection, embolism, necrosis, nodule, or witch's chin. All patients reported satisfaction with results of the HA injections. CONCLUSION Injection of HA according to the anatomical morphology of the chin is a safe and effective technique for chin augmentation and results in high patient satisfaction.
