Abstract

Learning Objectives: After participating in this CME activity, the spine surgeon should be better able to: 1. Describe the importance of evaluating nutritional status in spine surgery patients and identify relevant screening tools. 2. Discuss clinical significance of macronutrient and micronutrient availability in the perioperative period. Explain the impact of malnutrition on readmission rates, length of stay, and other postoperative adverse effects.this article is to provide a brief review of nutrition in the setting of spine surgery and how it affects patient outcomes and influences adverse events.
